BETWEEN SOCIAL MEDIA, NATIONAL NEWS, and family, friends and colleagues, it can get pretty noisy and nasty out (and in) there. And a lot of it, hell, most of it, is bullshit. I don’t think there is a day I don’t see some post from internet marketer colleagues about how “other people” are posing on social media and not really delivering value. I deliver value in spades. Still, sometimes those doubt worms wiggle through my brain, and I wonder: “Could they be talking about me?” “Are the naysayers right?” “Am I part of the problem?”

It’s a Numbers Game

Then I come to my senses. Who cares?! There are 7 billion plus people in the world. I don’t have time or energy to focus on what other people are or are not doing to get theirs. I certainly don’t have time to worry about what strangers who are not my prospective clients have to say about me. First, they most likely are not even thinking (or talking) about me. Second, even if they are, they aren’t my true friends–because true friends will have your back–or my prospective clients, so why should I care what they think or say about me? As the saying goes: “Your opinion of me is none of my business.”

Who Needs to Hear From You?

I know there are people who NEED to hear from me today because they aren’t making nearly the money they need in their businesses. They wake up with heart palpitations at 3 a.m. and can’t go back to sleep because they are worried about how they are going to pay the bills this month. Investing for the future is a pipe dream. God forbid the car breaks down because they have no idea what they’ll do then.

I’ve been there. I’ve burrowed through to the other side. Now I’m on a mission to help others through their tunnel vision–to help them see there is a way out. I don’t really care if that pisses off the tunnel rats, the lurkers or the judgy-mcjudgersons. I’ve got too much work to do to worry about the peanut gallery.

How Can You Help?

If your job is about helping others make their way through life with more ease–whether you are an attorney shouldering the burden of other’s legal problems for a time; a therapist helping them battle the inner demons; a health coach cutting through the kudzu of misinformation to bring your clients the life-saying truth; or a copywriter, coach, designer, creative…whatever, offering solutions to people’s money problems–you keep doing you.

Kick your haters out of your head and into the cold, cruel world. Even if that hater is you. Nay, especially if it is you.
